What is a trunk show?
A trunk show is an event for vendors to showcase their products directly to customers and store personnel. At trunk shows, brides can typically view a larger selection of a bridal designer’s collection than is normally carried in a bridal salon.
Trivia tidbit: The term is derived from the common practice of merchandise being transported to these events in trunks.
What should I wear for a trunk show? Should I bring anything with me?
When going to a trunk show, you are likely to be trying on more than one dress. Therefore, it is very important to be comfortable. Since samples usually come without extra layers of lining, we recommend wearing white underwear. Some brides like to wear a simple leotard just in case they get a little bit shy while being helped by others. Even if you haven’t chosen THE pair shoes yet, we still recommend bringing along a pair of shoes with the heel height you picture yourself in.
Who can come with me to my trunk show appointment at the boutique?
When seeking your dream dress, you should bring along one or two people who know you well and whom you trust the most to tell you the truth about how fabulous you look. Some prefer a best friend, others come with their mom’s. Just remember, its bad luck for the groom to see you in your dress before your big day!
Would I need to buy my dress on the spot?
Trunk shows are normally a good time to purchase your dream dress for
more than one reason. First, you do get to view and try on a wider variety of dresses than on a normal day. This will help you find your dream dress without having to compromise on anything less than what you want. Second, sometimes, the boutique might offer a special trunk show discount or something else that might be worthwhile. Lastly, if you are really lucky, occasionally, you could find yourself in the presence of the designer or a senior member of the brand’s team. This would grant you a unique opportunity to ask questions or seek advice from the very people who will later create your dress.
Would I be able to ask for changes to be made to the dress?
The bridal gown samples at a trunk show usually come in one size. Of course, a bride will be able to get the dress in her fitted size that would be slightly adapted to her particular needs. For example, if the bride is normally a size EU34 but has a long torso or larger breasts, this would be noted by the boutique’s staff on the designated form. Extra lining can always be added if the bride feels the dress might be too sheer. Lining comes in a few different shades which can be matched to the bride’s skin tone.
Do you do rush orders?
Generally, it is possible to place rush orders for a small additional fee. However, every bridal gown is different not just in design and fabric but also in its production process. Therefore, we suggest alerting the boutique’s staff and confirming this detail before placing the order.
